This type A2 flight jacket was worn by John G. Stanley, a tail gunner on the “Diplomat”. The 569th squadron patch is attached to the front of the jacket, and the name “Diplomat” above a swastika and a B-17 is painted on the back. Each bomb painted on the jacket signifies a successful mission. The “Diplomat” was WIA (wounded in action) while flying a mission on December 24, 1944, and was declared salvage on February 6, 1945.
