John H. Hammond, a waist gunner on the “Spirit of ‘76”, wore this type A2 flight jacket. The 568th squadron patch is attached to the front of the jacket, and the name “Spirit of ‘76” is painted on the back above a B-17 over the 8th air force logo. Each bomb painted on the back signifies a successful mission that Hammond flew.
