Maynard L. Lovely, a tail gunner attached to the 568th squadron, wore this type A2 flight jacket. Lovely and his crew flew a B-17 named “Uninvited Missionaires”. On the front left of the jacket is the name plate which reads "M.L. Lovely". The name of their crew and plane, “Missionaires”, is painted on the back of his jacket, a priest is painted below the name, and 35 bombs are painted to signify Lovely’s 35 completed missions. The “Uninvited Missionaires” flew 80 missions over Europe with 9 enemy KIA, before it was ditched over the English channel on January 20th, 1945.
