We are pleased to announce the recent purchase for resale several sets of our Aviation Greeting Cards by the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.  They will be available at the main store, the Center, and several of their “airport stores”.  This is very exciting stuff for us, and we hope that it is just the beginning of a long and friendly relationship with the Smithsonian.

Out of 400 photographic projects submitted, our aviation work was one of twenty projects recently selected by the American Society of Media Photographers for inclusion in their “Best of 2008” magazine issue.  This is a high honor, as all who submitted are professional photographers from across the USA.

We’ve gone and done it.  We’ve actually created a “brand identity” for our aviation artwork.  It is to be known as “Aerographs”, with the logo above to be the featured artwork.  It was created by our good friend, and terrific graphic designer/art director, Rich Godfrey.  After a brief conversation, Rich presented ideas that we just tweaked a bit until we had it “just right”.  I’m very pleased with the results, and hope that you’ll recognize our logo in the future as a mark of fine aviation photography.  It will make its “debut” at October’s Great Georgia Air Show in Peachtree City, Georgia.

International Society for Aviation Photography - National Conference

In early March, I had the opportunity to attend the ISAP Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.  One of the highlights was a day spent making pictures at Nellis Air Force Base, just outside of town.  We shot F-22’s, F-18’s, F-16’s, F-15’s, A-10’s, B-1 Bombers, Navy Prowlers, and I might be forgetting something.  Check ‘em out when you have a free moment.

Although we won’t have a booth at SNF this year, we will be there.  I hope to work very hard making photographs throughout the week, not only for fine art purposes, but also for several clients I’m cultivating.  Look for me running around with several cameras (hopefully not all at once!), a large tripod, and/or various types of strobe gear.  Early in the morning or late in the afternoon will be the ideal times.  If you see me, please don’t hesitate to say “Hello!”.

In the latest issue of the Aerographs NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), read what we were up to at this year’s Airventure.  Also, we’ve revised our print prices, and are making plans for a fine art show at a law school library.  There’s a few new images too.  Enjoy!

The International Society of Aviation Photography

We are pleased to announce that John was recently accepted into the International Society of Aviation Photography (ISAP).  Their members include such notable aviation photographers as Jessica Ambats, Paul Bowen, Jim Koepnick, Bonnie Kratz, and Chad Slattery.  We are thrilled to be part of such a terrific group of professionals.

Lockheed 12A Electra Junior

Even though Amelia Earhart flew a Lockheed 10 Electra, it’s almost as good to see a Lockheed 12A Electra Junior on the big screen, as in the new movie Amelia.  We had the opportunity to shoot this rare aircraft last year, and also shot the panel this year.  We’ll probably make additional photos next week, just because the weather is good, and the plane is freshly polished.  Check out our prints and coasters in the e-store
